Logline: After a painful breakup, an 18-year-old filmmaking student returns to his devout family’s provincial church to rediscover his faith—but while documenting church activities, he uncovers a system that appears to monetize devotion, forcing him to confront the uneasy truth about belief, power, and the price of salvation in the age of digital donations.
Synopsis: Christian, 18, a filmmaking student in Manila, is devastated after a failed relationship and falls into deep sadness. Concerned for him, his religious parents send him back to the province to rest and rediscover his faith in God. While helping his father’s church with video coverage and online content, Christian begins to witness a different side of the institution. Candles are removed if they are not bought from the church store, and projects that seem unrelated to religion focus heavily on collecting donations. As he documents church activities on video, he gradually uncovers a system that appears to exploit the faith of churchgoers—especially when his own father becomes entangled in an issue involving missing funds. Beyond video work, Christian is also asked to create a QR code for a digital donation app called Cash-Cash, designed to make giving faster and easier. However, the app publicly displays the names of those who donate large amounts, turning generosity into a visible measure of who is truly “giving” and who is considered a true “child of God.” Cash-Cash to Heaven is a critical film about grief, faith, and the price of salvation in a world where even the church offering box now comes with a QR code.
